FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2005 REPORT @ Naeba

DATE : 29,30 31st July, 2005 (Fri, Sat, Sun)

TEXT : Matt Cotterill

Naeba's peaks spent most of the weekend scratching the underbellies of streaking rain clouds, while the scenic valley went through its almost schizophrenic annual transformation from unassuming winter retreat to summertime rock behemoth - Asia's biggest music festival is nine years old, prepare to be ROCKED. 2005 saw a welcome return to the one-day-ticket; we all remember last year's minor debacle, when the organizers, in what many saw as a thinly veiled attempt to secure a sell out, made only 3-day tickets available. A profitable policy on paper, but one that went down about as well as a bacon butty at a Bah-mitzvah with the punters. But this time a cleverly balanced lineup of monster bands, retro regeneration and enough generic dance acts to keep the clubbers amongst us happy, a sell out was all but guaranteed. We made the journey with one express purpose - to be rocked until it hurt.
