Carl Cox Re - Takes America

Techno's top superstar DJ Carl Cox unveiled details of a punishing North American tour this week, which will see him travelling to 27 venues across the US and Canada in just 5 weeks.

The larger than life British legend will hopefully be taking the trip easier than he did on his last US tour in 2004, which contributed to him suffering a heart attack soon after he arrived back at his summer Mediterranean base in Palma.

"I was constantly tired and my body system, from the point of view of my internal organs, couldn't move fast enough for what I was putting into it," Carl told Skrufff earlier this year.

"My heart was pumping twice as hard to try and compensate and in the end I had a mild heart attack. I also found out in hospital that I had an ulcer and a liver complaint and now I've ended up with an irregular heartbeat, because I've also thinned out my blood. That means I've had to consciously slow my lifestyle down, for my heart to be able to continue working in the right way, within its normal parameters. And forever more it's declining."

His upcoming Coast to Coast tour kicks off at Los Angeles' House Of Blues, heading north to San Francisco and Seattle before criss-crossing between Canada and the US and includes a high profile date in New York on October 15, when he spins alongside Victor Calderone (Saturday 15 October). Additional gigs include Crobar Miami and Avalon in Boston.

Cox will be travelling between all gigs on a traditional band style tour bus though is likely to get off the bus a lot more than some of the rock bands who usually rent the bus.

"My life's been a journey beyond belief and I'm still around party-heads all the time, but these days I wake up in the morning and go: 'Right I'm off for a walk'," he revealed in May.

"So many great things have happened since I've stopped drinking and partying so hard that I have actually been able to do more. I've been able to get up and see the day to be able to do all this stuff. I just feel so much better for it. It means when I DJ now, I feels like I am unstoppable, whereas before I was like: 'Oh not another party, not another gig, not another late night'.."

"I'm having a great time being straight and being normal," he added,
