New Order celebrate John Peel Day

World famous radio disc jockey John Peel's death will be commemorated next month with a gig held at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall on October the 12th. The event will be headlined by none other than New Order who will be joined by Super Furry Animals, the Fall, Laura Cantrell, Misty in Roots, Jawbone and Venetian Stares. The concert precedes John Peel Day the following day which has been so named as John Peel recorded his last show on October 13th last year, twelve days before his death which occurred while holidaying in Peru. BBC's Radio 1 is hoping fans will hold events in Peel's honour and so far over 200 concerts all over the British Isles have been registered in support of the John Peel Day phenomenon.

In addition to the many gigs across the country in order to celebrate John Peel Day Radio 1 will be broadcasting a six hour show from 7pm on the day. The show will be hosted by numerous Radio 1 DJs and will feature highlights from festivities on the day and the night before. The BBC also plans to release a dedicated John Peel website to help cover events held in the disc jockey's honour all around the world. (Nick Lawrence)
