Cologne Goes Pop

Text by Nick Lawrence (HigherFrequency)

If you aren't a soccer fan but still want an excuse to head to Germany this year then look no further the third annual c/o pop festival. Rising up from the ashes left by the Popkomm Conference's departure for Berlin, the c/o pop festival brought new life to the city of Cologne. In its first year of operation the 17 day festival attracted fifty-thousand visitors and some 400 acts to the city of pop. This year the festival for electronic popculture has been trimmed back to five days of activities but still with plenty of homegrown and international acts to entice even the most sophisticated palette.

Running from the 23rd until the 27th of August, c/o pop offers musical performances as well as technology exhibitons like the popular synthesizerpark from previous year's outings. Kompakt, who were responsible for distributing last year's 2CD festival compilation, will also be back at the festival this year, this time for their "Kompakt Total 7" night. In conjunction with the August event a DVD was released last March called "We Built This City" which documents the history of electronic music in Cologne
