Minus is Coming Home

Text by Nick Lawrence (HigherFrequency)

Minimal poster-child Richie Hawtin is returning to Canada with all his Minus pals in tow for this year's Mutek Festival. The seventh installment of the International festival of music, sound and new technologies returns to Montreal between May 31st and June 4th with a lineup to make any member of the click-clique squeal like an over excited school girl, but of course in an uber cool, refined and sophisticated manner. Along with performances by the likes of Dandy Jack, Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Troy Pierce, Dimbiman and Lawrence there will be panel discussions and workshops on VJ techniques, mixing equipment and much more.

Much like the Love Parade, Mutek has spread its wings across continents to spawn a sister festival, this time in Mexico. The Mexican festival celebrated its third year at the end of March with a considerable amount of local talent on show but a stripped back international roster. The Mutek Festival marks the end of touring for the Minus crew who have made their way through Europe and now North America in an effort to promote their new "Min2Max" compilation CD which will be released on the 29th of May.
