Boards Of Canada Return

Scottish ambient champions Boards Of Canada released details of their long awaited new album this week, via a typically minimalist statement on their record label's website Warprecords.com.

"We are extremely pleased to announce that Boards of Canada have finished and mastered their new album, to be released in October," Warp declared,"their first release since 2002's Geogaddi!"

The Scottish duo of Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin started making music together 21 years ago signing up with Warp in 1996 after Autechre's Sean Booth discovered them. Building a highly committed fanbase, the pair admitted in 2002 that expectations were already causing them problems

"We do try to ignore them, but it's difficult when we get a lot of email or letters from fans who say how much they look forward to hearing the next album," Marcus told Skrufff.

"We've even had letters explaining to us how the album was going to sound, so even before it was finished, we already knew some people were expecting something different to what it was. In the end, you just resort to ignoring the outside world, and with that you find your inspiration blossoms," he said.

Bandmate Mike was similarly enigmatic explaining "When we're composing it's as though we're writing a soundtrack for a film or an abstract visual and that acts as the fuel for ideas in a track. For Geogaddi the intention was to move towards a less 'describable' texture" he added, "We love the idea of a wall of sound where it's only once everything is in it's place that the whole tune makes sense."
