London Italoboyz Modernise Mother Bar

Minimal-house duo the Italoboyz have named their always packed Sunday night party at Mother Bar 'Modern', almost a year after they took over the Hoxton institution.

Chatting to Skrufff this week, Marco (the tall one) was unusually cryptic about the new name, explaining they'd chosen it 'because it is not about this or that, it's just about music'.

"Probably 'Modern' explains the best what is behind the sound we like, by floating all around our past, present and future influences," he added, "Though it's more about background than tradition. Our musical background includes all the evolutions of house music, from the brightest to the darkest, from the happiest to the more straight forward.. It's our exploration, it's like 'how deep the rabbit hole goes'," he added.

Marco was similarly vague about the regulars they've drawn to the 333's upper space, describing their growing selection of foxy Italian admirers as '22nd century Ladieez Warriors'.

"We seem to attract very diverse people, can't really explain," he laughed, "Every Sunday seems like a movie." (Jonty Skrufff/Skrufff.com)
