BBC Tribute To John Peel

Radio 1 will pay homage to it's longest serving DJ, a man loved by millions the late John Peel with a evening dedicated to the life, work and of course music of the great man.

Since his death in November whilst on a trip to Peru with his wife tributes have been pouring in from fans and celebrities alike all wanting to demonstrate the difference he made to their lives.

The evening, broadcast on the 16th December from 7pm GMT on Radio 1 and on the internet, will be hosted and presented by Steve Lamacq and held at the famous BBC Maida Vale studios, the scene to legendary performances by heroes past and present. The launch pad for many new acts as well as countless momentous musical moment. Orbital recently played their last ever live set broadcast on his acclaimed Peel Sessions.

The evening will see stars from all areas of music that John played, loved and advocated to the world gather to pay their respects and thanks him for the help many believe made their career.

7pm - 8pm - Teenage Dreams So Hard To Beat

Kicking off Peel night, Radio 1 takes a look back at the career of the great man with a one hour documentary celebrating his extraordinary life. The show will feature tributes from The Undertones, Orbital, the Cure, New Order, Supergrass, Robert Plant, Underworld, Siouxsie Sioux and the Buzzcocks.

8pm - 11:30pm

Live music from bands that John championed including the Wedding Present, Nina Nastasia, Hefner, Trencher, Melys, Steveless, Stuart Murdoch (Belle & Sebastian), Special guests tbc. Steve Lamacq will be introducing the bands and linking it all together.

11:30pm - 1am

The DJs take over with sets from Underworld, Hixxy, Coldcut, Shitmat, Grooverider plus Dynamite MC on mic duties.
