As part of their 2005 shake-up trying to break from their stale summer programming of Ibiza and a couple of UK festivals BBC's Radio 1 has announced that it will be broadcasting from the SKOL Beats festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The festival, attended by over 50,000 dance music fans is one of the largest in the continent and features some of the biggest names on the international circuit with guess whoc Mr Peter of Tong hosting his essential arena and joined by Layo and Bushwacka, Fergie and a few other UK DJs. In fact there's a strong UK feel throughout with Mylo and Faithless headlining the main stage and Sasha and Digweed headlining the SKOL arena. Local hero DJ Marky will be heading up in the drum and bass tent and will be joined by Zinc, High Contrast, Friction and more.
With return tickets to the event expensive wherever you're heading from in Europe or Japan it's relieving to know that you won't be ripped off at the entrance, entrance to the 17 hour party will only be 60 Reals (about 10-15 GBP) making it a only a little more than a trip to Ibiza. ! The first time a music event of this kind has been broadcast south of the equator, it promises to be a very special event. Taking place on the 16th April fans all over the world can listen to the event live on www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 between 10pm and 5am GMT for some live and direct action from the steamy dance floor of Sao Paulo.
